80s art - dig it!

The "Hof" in "Hof Art" stands for "highly optimistic and friendly". Hof Art gallery is just about one of my favourite places on earth, it is highly optimistic and friendly! It's filled with young hipster artist types who wear neon striped trousers they probably weaved themselves. The artwork itself is a bit hit-and-miss, I've seen stuff there I've loved and hated and felt indifferent about. They throw regular parties sponsored by beer companies and the stories I collect after each of these nights could inspire artwork of their own.

So the other night apparently it was either 80s themed or artist from the 80s or 80s inspired. It's very hard to know for sure. Here's some of it:

This one was just a bunch of light boxes on the floor, I am not really sure why:

This was a piece with a bunch of cranes and you can't really see the what the writing says but it basically has a crane for each major war fought since the Cold War in countries of the South and the number of people of have died:

I'm not a huge fan of Dali-style surrealism, but this one is worth dissecting:
Familiar-looking Thai politician feeding Issan-looking peasant with whiskey. Barren land, the ground is so dry there are cracks and in the distance the water tower shows it is empty (it says "empty" on it). Topless Thai woman is depicted with a tap in the place of a face suggesting the only thing that flows in this part of the country is through its women. In the sky there are rainclouds producing no rain. The King is also known as the Rain King...
