Criminalising bloggery

The Democrats are pushing Parliament to pass a bill to criminalise freedom of speech on the www, specifically progressive commentary about the monarchy ("enemies of the state"). Commenters on forums get 3-5 years in jail while bloggers get 20 years.

Why does the 21st century look like the Middle Ages?

Welcome to China,
No doubt it will also grant them power to prosecute retroactively.

I found it worrying as well that charges of lese majeste were sought to be brought against people calling past governments 'illicit' because it would imply fallibily of the King.

Lese Majeste seems to be a catchall term these days.

PS.
Welcome back :)
Thought we'd lost you.
